130 Years in 2020

Together we continue the mission of proclaiming the transforming love of Christ in Word and Sacrament to the communities of Carlsbad and Eddy County . . . a vision spanning 130 years in 2020.

This photograph was taken from the roof of 206 N. Canyon St. facing southwest across the vacant block that would soon hold the Court House. The Little Rock House at right still exists (now called Church House). It is the oldest house in Carlsbad, and is currently owned by Grace Church, the first and oldest church in Carlsbad. As situated in this photo, at present, it is two doors down from the church and just west of the library. (Stringfellow, March 25, 1890 photo)

The original Grace Parish building. Standing outside is the Rev. Norman J. Marshall, Vicar, 1903-1908 & 1909-1910.

Grace Episcopal Church tower added in 1906. (1914 photo)

Mr. H. S. Church (standing third from left) for whom Church Street was named. He was an engineer for the Irrigation Company with an office on the second floor of the bank building at Canal & Fox Streets. He and his family were members of Grace Parish and in 1890 built his family home which we call Church House at 105 S. Alameda St. (1894 photo)

The interior of Grace Church today looks very much like this undated photo.

Bishop Kendrick said “Too much cannot be said to the credit of the Guild. Without its faithful work Grace Church could hardly have been built.”
